Faith is a Gift

1 Corinthians 13:13 says “And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.”  What a great passage.  It is a summation of our Christian life lived out.  Wile we should seek to understand the importance of faith in our lives, we should also acknowledge that faith is a gift from God.
There is a story recorded in Mark 9 of a man had a son who needed to be healed because he is possessed by an evil spirit.  The man came to Jesus and asked him, "If you can do anything, take pity on us and help us."  Jesus responded, "If you can? Everything is possible for the one who believes."  Immediately the man responded, " I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief."  Jesus then rebuked the spirit, the spirit came violently out of the boy, and Jesus took the boy by the hand and lifted him to his feet.
Have you ever felt that way?  You believe there is a God and believe in the salvation that he has provided.  You believe that the Christian life really is the best life and that God knows more than you do, but there are days you just need a little help and you ask God for help for your unbelief.  There are some prayers we don’t know how God will answer, but this is one prayer that God will always answer. God is even willing to provide the very faith that we need – the faith that is so essential to the abundant life that he has for each one of us.  We just need to ask.  On those days when you need help, ask.  God will provide.

In Him,
Pastor Boyd
