One God: The Lord your God

The Ten Commandments begins with "And God spoke all these words: 'I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypts, out of the land of slavery.  You shall have no other gods before me.'" Exodus 20:2-3.
The word "Lord" used in verse 2 is Yahweh.  It means a covenant-keeping God, a God who is faithful to his promises and who is merciful, righteous, gracious, and perfect in his affections.  There's no on one this earth who is more deserving of love than that kind of Lord.
The verse also says he's "the Lord your God."  The word for God there is Elohim.  He is Almighty, all-powerful, eternal, omniscient God.  He is the God that came down to earth for us, to love us.
Not only is He Lord and God, he is your God.  He's not just some abstract phenomena that we worship from afar, like a piece of art in an art gallery.  He's very personal, and he paid the price for your sins and took them away.  No one on this earth has loved us like God loves us.  That's why 1 John 4:19 says, "we love because he first loved us."
When we begin to understand all that those verses mean, we begin to see that the Lord our God is the one God worthy of worship.  Let's plead with the Holy Spirit to instill within us worship and love for the one true God as he dwell in him more and more each day.
In Him,
Pastor Boyd
